More Groenkloef victims surface

Another victim surfaces and shares her story of a Groenkloef attack.

More victims from attacks in a nature reserve east of Pretoria have surfaced.

This followed a Rekord report that a woman and her mother were robbed and almost raped in the Groenkloof Nature reserve on Saturday.

The attack on Taschia Slabbert and her mother prompted Rekord reader Catherine Worsley to come forward.

She said she and her boyfriend were also attacked by two men about a week ago.

She said the men hit them and took their valuables.

“We managed to get away and flag down a car, which drove us back to the security guards,” said Worsley.

Slabbert said this week she was in talks with a lawyer and was considering legal action.

An eyewitness had since come forward to say that he saw Slabbert and her mother in a panic coming from the trail onto the jeep track where he was cycling.

Andre Van Harte said he saw Slabberts’ mother holding her wrist were she was stabbed.

He also remembered Slabbert saying that the robbers had taken a bag with her car keys and voicing fears they would steal her car as well.

“She started to run barefoot onto the jeep track, heading for the gate,” said Van Harte.

“After speaking to her, I went to the entrance of the park and informed them. The gentleman there started making calls on his cellphone,” Van Harte said.

“He told me his immediate supervisor and a worker had tried to apprehend the crooks and that one of the workers was hit on the head with a brick.”

The metro confirmed the attacked on the two women.

Spokesperson Lindela Mashigo said the culprits were arrested and security at the reserve had been beefed up.

“We have agreed with the metro police to deploy more of their members. The idea is for them to be visible all the times,” Mashego said.

“Unfortunately, we cannot divulge operational information as this might compromise the security measures in place.”

Mashego said a high-level security cluster meeting had been arranged for 10 May to discuss problems at the reserve.
