Attempted cable theft in Moot

Security recovered about 150 meters of cable after an attempted theft.

Security in the Moot recovered about 150 meters of cable after an attempted theft.

Kilnerpark Security was called out on Tuesday night to the corner of 32 Avenue and Terblance Street where they found the cable.

“A member of the community called in to say they saw a suspect dropped off by a vehicle, described as a blue Tazz,” said spokesperson Ancelize van der Kooi.

“A Kilnerpark Security response unit was sent out to the scene and Dawid Brink was first to make the discovery.”

The cut cable had apparently been abandoned because the suspect had fled.

“Metro and police were called to the scene and the cables were taken away by the anti cable theft unit.”

Police could not immediately confirm the attempted theft.

Van der Kooi said Kilnerpark Security had recently launched a new application for smartphones and electronic devices that clients and non-clients can use during emergencies.

“It functions as a panic button and if used will send a distress signal with your exact GPS coordination to the main system that would enable a response team to follow and find you.”
