Burglaries dwindle with police visibility

Residents pleased with decreased crime rate, following police intervention.

Increased police visibility has eased the worries of residents east of Pretoria after a number of recurring burglaries led to a resident being shot at.

Equestria resident Kefentse Mompei said the number of burglaries decreased due to police intervening, following a meeting between police officials and Equestria residents recently.

Mompei said two weeks ago residents were fed-up with the number of increasing burglaries around the Equestria area. He was now pleased to report that the rate of burglaries had decreased.

“The first week after talks with police and councillors was showing a positive outcome, but it is too early to determine if the problem was eradicated completely,” said Mompei.

He was pleased with the current state of no burglaries but the open municipal land between many complexes was the cause of the problem.

Mompei and residents met on Stellenberg Road last week to discuss a way forward, following many burglaries in Equestria that led to one of their neighbours being shot at.

He said recently, one of their neighbours was ambushed by a robber and shot at while attempting to seek help from security at the entrance.

“Until the Tshwane metro addresses the land these criminals use as an escape route, it is only a matter of time until we get another burglary,” said Mompei.

The metro confirmed the issue was being addressed by one of their representatives.
