Pistorius faces harsher murder sentence
The State wants a heavier murder sentence for former athlete Oscar Pistorius.
The State will push for a harsher sentence for Paralympian and convicted murderer Oscar Pistorius when he appears in the North Gauteng High Court on Monday.
The National Prosecuting Authority said it wanted the former athlete to spend a minimum of 15 years in prison for shooting and killing his model girlfriend Reeva Steenkamp on 14 February 2013.
Pistorius is still under house arrest after he was sent to jail for five years for culpable homicide. He spent a year at Kgosi Mampuru II prison before being paroled in October last year.
The culpable homicide conviction was overturned and replaced with murder a few months later by the Supreme Court of Appeal.
Meanwhile, Pistorius will give an exclusive interview to British television network ITV.
In his first television interview since the murder, the Paralympian will speak to investigative journalist Mark Williams-Thomas about the night he shot and killed Steenkamp.
