Day two: Pistorius sentencing resumes
Oscar Pistorius returns to court on Tuesday as sentencing procedures resume at the North Gauteng High Court.
Day two of the week-long sentencing proceedings for convicted murderer Oscar Pistorius continued in the Pretoria High Court on Tuesday.
In an effort to prove the athlete was an inspiration and good role model to children, defence attorney Barry Roux called Icelander Ebba Gudmunsdottir to the stand to talk about the relationship her 11-year-old son, who was born with no legs, and the athlete shared Pistorius and.
“There was a time when my son was three years old, and Pistorius had won a gold medal. During an interview, Pistorius took the opportunity to turn to my son and put his medal around my son’s neck,” she told the court.
Gudmunsdottir said she was told when she was pregnant that her son would have no legs. #Pistorius wanted to help her.

Pistorius is to be sentenced for murder after the Supreme Court of Appeal overturned his culpable homicide conviction and replaced it with murder last year.
The athlete shot and killed his model girlfriend Reeva Steenkamp on Valentine’s day, in his home in Pretoria three years ago.
The first witness, clinical psychologist Dr Jonathan Scholtz, testifying on behalf of the defence on Monday, said Pistorius alleged he was assaulted in prison.
State prosecutor Gerrie Nel said it was the first time he’d heard of the incident and that it was never recorded.
Scholtz recommended that the athlete be hospitalised as his psychological condition had worsened.
Judge Thokozile Masipa is expected to hand down her sentence on Friday.
The 29-year-old Paralympian could be sentenced to a minimum of 15 years in prison.
