Police ask for help to find Kirkney robbers
Following a spate of house robberies in Kirkney, police are working hard to eliminate crime in the area.
Police are appealing to Kirkney residents to help them find robbers responsible for a number of house robberies in the area.
Two homeowners were robbed at gunpoint in the past two days, and various house items stolen.
Police spokesperson Captain Bonginkosi Msimango said the police were doing everything they could to eliminate crime in the area.
A man and his wife were robbed at gunpoint on their plot in Kirkney, Pretoria West, on Monday, while leaving for work, said Msimango.
“The complainant and his wife where about to leave their home at 5:45, when an unknown man carrying a revolver confronted them on their doorstep.”
“The suspect ordered the complainant to lie on the floor. He complied and soon after, five other men came in and ransacked the house,” he said.
Msimango said two laptops, a plasmascreen TV, a GPS device, a bank card and driver’s licence were stolen and the men fled in the couple’s Toyota Etios.
“The vehicle was traced and found in Mamelodi a few hours later. No arrests have been made but we are following through to make sure that these suspects are caught.”
In another incident in Kirkney, a man was hit over the head with a pistol during a house robbery in Extension 5 on Monday morning.
“The victim was in the bathroom when he heard his dog barking. When he looked out of the window to see what was happening, the victim noticed three men in his yard, one carrying a firearm,” he said.
The victim realised that his door was not locked and tried to lock it, but the men made it to the door before he could.
“The victim tried to shout for help but he was hit over the head with a pistol and ordered to keep quiet. He was locked in his bathroom while the suspects stole valuable items in his house.”
“After a few minutes, the victim managed to get himself out of the bathroom and called for help,” he said.
Msimango said two televisions, jewellery and a DVD player were stolen.
“We are appealing to the community to help us find these men.”
