Police to host expo on Youth Day
Brooklyn police invite parents to bring their children along to the security expo. There will be pony rides, face-painting, jumping castles and much more.
Brooklyn police and security companies in the east of Pretoria will be hosting a security expo on Youth Day.
Brooklyn police spokesperson Captain Colette Weilbach said a security forum was established in April to ensure a better working relationship between the police and different security companies in the east of Pretoria.
Following numerous successful joint crime prevention operations and information sharing meetings, it was decided to take the forum to the community, she added.
“On Thursday 16 June, community members will have an opportunity to visit a security expo that will address different security needs,” said Weilbach.
“During the expo, visitors can get expert advice on how to safeguard themselves and how to enhance the security of their homes and businesses.”
Weilbach said entertainment would also be provided.
“There will be pony rides, face-painting and jumping castles to keep children busy while Mum and Dad visit the different stalls.”
“Other entertainment will include music performances by the Tshwane SAPS band, potjiekos competitions, dog and security response demonstrations and food and craft stalls by the Brooklyn SAPS housewife market, which is a monthly community outreach initiative.”
Weilbach said they believed all available resources must be harnessed through partnerships and community involvement to ensure a safer environment for all.
“Everyone is invited to visit the expo and get to know the police and other safety service providers on a more informal platform.”
Entrance to the expo is free. The expo will take place from 09:00 till 15:00 at the Hatfield Christian Church, Corobay Avenue, Waterkloof Glen.
