NEWSFLASH: Fort Klapperkop attackers arrested
The arrest came after a cyclist was attacked at Fort Klapperkop on Saturday morning.
A regular Fort Klapperkop robber and attacker was arrested after Hi-Risk Unit were directed to his whereabouts by his accomplices on Saturday.
This took place after the two accomplices were caught and arrested when they attacked a cyclist at the crime hotspot around 07:00 on Saturday morning, Hi-Risk Unit spokesperson, Arthur Crewe said.
He said the cyclist was attacked near View Point 1 when a Hi-Risk Unit response vehicle patrolling the area heard the commotion.
“He went to investigate and when the victim saw the response vehicle, he grabbed the two suspects and tried to drag them towards our patrol officer,” Crewe said.
He said the two attackers tried to hit the cyclist with a rock in an attempt to free themselves.
“Our officer saw the suspects and gave chase after making sure the victim was safe. Other rapid response vehicles and our K9 vehicles entered the reserve.”
The two men were eventually caught and the cyclist’s cellphone was found in their possession. They left the bicycle at Fort Klapperkop, Crewe said.
“The one suspect took us to another suspect in Salvokop who is also responsible for the regular attacks at Fort Klapperkop. These suspects live in a squatter camp there.”
He said the attackers were apprehended and detained by the Pretoria Central police and added: “Well done to the two police members that assisted.”
