Cop kills two women then himself

The police officer killed his new girlfriend and his ex-girlfriend before turning the gun to himself.

The Independent Police Investigation Directorate (IPID) was investigating the murder of two women who were shot dead by a Bronkhorstspruit police officer before he turned the gun onto himself.

The officer was believed to have had an argument with his new girlfriend (18) on Thursday after she questioned him about his former girlfriend who often visited him, IPID spokesperson Robbie Raburabu said.

The officer and his 23-year-old former girlfriend had lived in separate flats on the same premises.

“It is believed the former girlfriend went to the officer to borrow a cellphone charger. The new girlfriend then questioned the officer about his former girlfriend and an argument ensued.”

He said the officer then shot his 18-year-old girlfriend. She died at the scene.

His former girlfriend returned to his flat after hearing gunshots.

“That is when he also shot her. He then turned the gun to himself and shot himself. All three died at the scene.”

“We are currently investigating the circumstances around the deaths and also if there was any history of violence,” Raburabu said.
