NATIONAL NEWS: Tongaat farm attack puts 80-year-old in ICU
“While beating him up, they kept saying that they want the key to the safe but they wouldn’t stop to allow him to give the key to them. It was almost as if they enjoyed it.”
An elderly couple were attacked and the 80-year-old husband brutally beaten at their home on a farm in Misty Ridge in Upper Tongaat in the early hours of Sunday morning.
”The intruders kicked down the front door. They first went into the office then headed to the house to get the key for the safe, which is in the office. They then made they way to the main bedroom” said the couple’s son, Dave Shepherd.
Their dog started to bark and alerted the elderly woman, Joy Shepherd.
“I walked out to the gate and saw them standing there. I asked what they wanted and they said, ‘mali’ (money),” said Joy.
