Security guard arrested for copper cable theft
A 41-year-old security guard was arrested for copper cable theft in Hammanskraal.
A security guard was arrested for allegedly stealing copper worth over R15 000.
Police spokesperson Constable Herman Moremi said the guard, aged 41, was arrested on Sunday afternoon near Babelegi Factories in Hammanskraal.
“The guard was found [spotted] by his manager while pushing a waste bin full of copper cables. He handed the bin over to two men who [when they saw the manager’s car] dumped it and ran away,” said Moremi.
Moremi said the manager of a private security company had gone to a factory his guards protected to check up on his workers.
“He found one guard and asked him about the other. He was told the other was doing a routine patrol around the factory. The manager drove around the factory and spotted the security guard believed to be doing the routine patrol, pushing a waste bin,” said Moremi.
His boss brought him to Temba police station with the bin full of the copper.
“The cable was seized and the suspect detained.”
He is expected to appear in the Moretele Magistrate’s Court soon.
