Former officer assists in dramatic chase
The former officer shot two tyres from the bakkie the men were travelling in.
A former police officer is said to have helped to capture three men fleeing in a hijacked bakkie at the weekend.
Word was that he disabled the vehicle when he shot out two tyres, said French Jooste of the Bull security firm.
The three were speeding away in the bakkie from an armed robbery in Monument Park on the R21.
Jooste said he was returning from an assigned pick-up operation from OR Tambo International Airport on Sunday when he saw police cars and three men on the ground with their hands behind their heads.
“I drove past the scene on Sunday night around 20:00 on the R21 from the airport. I saw a wrecked vehicle among police vans with the three men on the ground,” he said.
“We [Bull Security] later received information that police were in pursuit of the bakkie and a former policeman, who was on the highway at the time, joined the chase.”
According to a police post on Facebook, the former officer shot out two tyres of the bakkie.
The bakkie veered out of control and crashed.
All three men were ejected from the vehicle when it crashed. One of the men attempted to flee the scene but was shot in the leg.
Pretoria cluster police could not confirm the car chase at the time of publishing.
