Gallery: Several arrested for looting

Twenty-four people were arrested during a police operation in Mabopane on Friday.
Acting National Commissioner Lieutenant-General Kgomotso Phahlane said 24 people were arrested when police confiscated looted items on Friday.
Phahlane said the operation, named Thata Zonke, included house-to-house searches in the Mabopane area to recover stolen goods.
“The goods were looted from various shops at Central City and Batho Pela malls during the unrests.”
Unrest unfolded on this week when Thoko Didiza was named the ANC’s new mayoral candidate for Tshwane.
Police said in a statement: “Police will work with local business people in an attempt to identify the stolen goods as they cannot be kept in police storage forever.”
Phahlane said reported deaths in the area were being investigated.
He said those who were arrested would appear in court soon.
Several stores were looted this week around the Mabopane area.
