Three caught after brazen robbery
“It was the domestic who led police to her accomplices.”
Three people were caught after a brazen house robbery at the weekend in Constantia Park, east of Pretoria.
Police arrested a woman and two men after the armed robbery on Saturday.
Hester Snibbe a resident, said two men wearing balaclavas entered her home around 10:20 on Saturday morning .
“It was after I had taken a shower and walked to the bedroom,” she said.
“My door flew open and behind it was a man wearing the balaclava.”
Snibbe said her driver and domestic were thrown into her room.
The intruders demanded keys to the safe and she handed them over.
“The men knew exactly were all the safes were and even knew some of the safe combinations.
Snibbe said her brother, a domestic worker and herself were the only people who knew the location on the hidden safes.
The men raided all safes and took a number of valuables, including Snibbe’s firearm.
Snibbe said the men told them all to lie face down and fled.
She called her brother who alerted police and security firms.
“Within minutes, police and security firms responded.”
Garsfontein Police spokesperson Warrant Officer Dave Miller said the arrests were made after the domestic worker was brought in for questioning.
“After interrogation, the domestic worker confessed and led police to Winterveldt where the other two suspects were found.
Miller said the two men and the domestic worker were arrested. Some of the stolen items were recovered, including the firearm.
“We have reason to believe there were five suspects involved in the theft,” said Miller.
The trio would appear in the Pretoria Magistrate’s Court soon on house robbery and possession of stolen property charges.
Snibbe said she wanted to mention how magnificent police were in making the arrest at such short notice.
“Thank you, officers.”
