Boyfriend sets family house alight
The neighbours called the firefighters, but they could not save the house.
A Soshanguve man has burned down his girlfriend’s family house in the township.
Police spokesperson, Warrant Officer Mathews Nkoadi said the house belonged to Christina Motha in Soshanguve Block CC.
The culprit, who was known to the police, disappeared after the arson on Saturday afternoon.
Nkoadi said the man went to the family house earlier on Saturday looking for his girlfriend Monica Motha and her 3-year-old son.
“When he did not find them, he then asked kids playing soccer in the street if they had seen Monica and her kid.”
They said no and he drove off.
“He apparently returned in the afternoon, poured petrol all over the building and set it alight,” Nkoadi said.
The man told the kids in the street that he had burnt down the house.
Neighbours alerted emergency services, but firefighters could not save the house.
The police had opened an arson docket.
The hunt for the man was continuing, Nkoadi said.
