Donations for Zuma a scam
The Presidency warned of a social media scam, requesting the public to make donations to assist President Jacob Zuma in paying back the money used for the Nkandla upgrades.
Requests on social media for money to paid into bank accounts in support of President Jacob Zuma are a scam, his office said on Wednesday.
“No account has been opened for this purpose and no request has been made for members of the public to contribute,” said presidency spokesperson Bongani Ngqulunga.
The presidency confirmed this week that it received a report from National Treasury on Monday ordering the president to pay back R7.8 million of the R246 million spent on security upgrades at his private home in Nkandla.

The Constitutional Court instructed Treasury to determine how much the president should pay back after he failed to comply with Public Protector Thuli Madonsela’s recommendation.
Madonsela’s 2014 report found that Zuma unduly benefited from the upgrades of his Nkandla homestead and ordered him to repay for non-security features such as an amphitheatre and swimming pool.
