Hunt on for hijackers
“The driver of the delivery vehicle is still missing indicating that he may have been abducted.”
Investigations are underway after three vehicles ambushed and hijacked a cigarette delivery vehicle in Centurion on Thursday morning.
Two security officers in a vehicle escorting the delivery truck were shot and wounded during the hijacking on the R55 in Sunderland Ridge around 08:00.
Wierdabrug police spokesperson Captain Agnes Huma said police were searching for the three cars linked to the delivery vehicle’s hijacking.
She said the two security officers wounded during the hijacking were in hospital.
“The driver of the delivery vehicle is still missing indicating that he may have been abducted.”
She said police were following every lead.
The three vehicles fled with the truck.
OrangeFox security firm’s spokesperson Marcé Bester said the security vehicle escorting the delivery vehicle was riddled with bullets.
He confirmed the two officers were wounded and transported to hospital.
“The delivery vehicle and security car were ambushed as they were making a turn into Sunderland Ridge,” said Bester.
He said EMS, Emer-G-Med, ER 24 responded to the hijacking.
