Hundreds arrested in weekend operations
Police arrested 376 people for various crimes at the weekend.
A total of 376 people were arrested during police operations in Ga-Rankuwa, Mabopane and Pretoria North over the weekend.
Police spokesperson Warrant Officer Matthews Nkoadi said different crime prevention initiatives were undertaken in various areas and all yielded success.
“Tshwane North cluster members around Ga-Rankuwa, Soshanguve, Akasia, Pretoria North and Mabopane all did the operations and 376 people were arrested from Friday until Sunday.”
The arrests were for murder, arson, rape, public violence and looting, which was in the majority, he said.
“Most items stolen were recovered during sweep and search operations,” he said.
“Most suspects, especially those arrested for public violence, already appeared in different courts and were remanded in custody for further investigations. Others will appear in the Soshanguve, Ga-Rankuwa and Pretoria North magistrate’s courts in due time.”
