Rape charge laid against ANC official
The official apparently offered her employment in exchange for sex.
A rape charge has been laid against a senior ANC official in Ga-Rankuwa zone 20, northwest of Pretoria.
Police spokesperson Lt-Colonel Lungelo Dlamini confirmed the charge on Friday, but declined to elaborate.
He would not comment on a news report that the purported victim was a woman in the official’s constituency.
The official is said to have promised employment to the jobless mother of two in exchange for sex.
The nature of the charge means that he cannot be named.
ANC regional spokesperson Teboho Joala said the party would not comment before verifying the allegations.
“We cannot comment at this stage,” he said.
“Once we have established the nature of these allegations and the individual has been charged only then can we provide comment.”
In the media report, the woman said she was struggling to make ends meet and approached the local ANC branch for assistance.
She was referred to the official concerned.
The man allegedly offered her employment in exchange for sex.
After several sexual encounters – some against her wishes – the job offer had not materialised, the news report said.
This led to the woman laying a charge of rape against the official.
