Brooklyn Mall shooters on the run

Police said the armed robbers were still at large but one man was brought in for questioning.

The hunt is on for three men who shot and wounded a shopper on Thursday when he tried to stop them after they robbed a store in Brooklyn mall.

Police spokesperson Captain Kay Makhubela said a man was brought in for questioning, but no arrests had been made by Thursday afternoon.

“A man was brought in for questioning after someone saw him at a shopping centre and suspected he might have been involved in the robbery. However, he is not yet linked to the case.”

The three armed men robbed a Scoin shop of close to R1 million around noon on Thursday. A shopper saw the men fleeing and confronted them, Makhubela said.

“The suspects shot him in the upper body and robbed him of his firearm before fleeing the mall.”

Emer-G-Med spokesperson Braam Kruger said the man was stabilised and taken to hospital in a critical condition.

Brooklyn Mall’s general manager Michelle Kriek thanked police for their speedy response.

“The police arrived in full force within minutes of the incident and pursued the suspects. We are giving the police investigation our full support. Be assured that safety is our top priority.”
