Hunt on for three robbers

A man was shot at Brooklyn Mall on Thursday, during a robbery at one of the stores.
The man had tried to stop three armed men who had robbed The Scoin Shop in Brooklyn Mall of close to R1 million.
Shopper Bennie Venter (43) saw the men fleeing and confronted them, said Brooklyn police spokesperson Captain Collette Weilbach.
Venter’s brother, Sarel Venter, said Venter was outside The Scoin Shop when it was robbed by the three men.
Sarel said one of the robbers was fleeing from the shop when he came across his brother.
“The robber grabbed him [Venter] by his arm. Venter’s first reaction was to get away so he slapped the robber, who fell to the ground,” said Sarel.
Sarel said as Venter, who works for a security company, was about to draw his firearm to arrest the perpetrator, the second robber came out of the shop and shot him.
The three suspects then fled the scene.
“The bullet went through his shoulder, down his back and lodged behind his liver,” said Sarel.
Emer-G-Med spokesperson Braam Kruger said Venter was stabilised at the scene and taken to hospital in a critical condition.
Sarel said his brother was recovering in the intensive care unit of Unitas Hospital in Centurion and doctors had to drain blood from his lungs.
Police are investigating a case of attempted murder and business robbery.
Weilbach said no arrests have been made but investigations were ongoing.
