BREAKING NEWS: Officer shot in ATM bombing
“The men opened fire as our security vehicles attempted to cut them off.”
A security officer was shot and wounded in a shootout with “ATM bombers” in the east of Pretoria on Tuesday morning.
Bull Security spokesperson French Jooste said the company’s security officers responded to two loud explosions at Cornwall Shopping Centre in Elardus Park around 02:40.
The explosions were from the bombing of an ATM.
“Three of our vehicles responded and found suspected ATM bombers driving out of the complex.”
Jooste said the perpetrators immediately opened fire as Bull security vehicles attempted to cut them off.
“One of our officers was shot in the arm and transported by Netcare 911 medics to the Pretoria East Hospital.”
Jooste said the three vehicles were riddled in bullets in the shootout.
“The armed “bombers” fled with an undisclosed amount of cash.
He said the police would investigate and confirm the amount of cash stolen.
