Domestic in court for robbing employer
“After interrogation, the domestic worker confessed and led police to Wintersveldt where the other two suspects were found.”
A trio linked to the armed robbery of a woman at her residence in Constantia Park in the east of Pretoria will appear in the Pretoria Magistrate’s Court in August.
Police spokesperson Warrant Officer Dave Miller said a domestic worker, her husband and an accomplice made a brief appearance in the Pretoria Magistrate’s Court last Monday (4 July).
Lina Modisha (38), Kenneth Khabi (26) and Jeremiah Rankgana (53) were denied bail, according to reports.
Miller said they would appear in court again on 11 August.
The three were arrested after the domestic worker, Modisha, confessed to the robbery.
“After interrogation, the domestic worker confessed and led police to Winterveldt where the other two suspects were found.”
Miller said the domestic worker, her husband and an accomplice were arrested and some of the stolen property was recovered, including a firearm.
“We have reason to believe there were five suspects involved in the theft,” said Miller.
Hester Snibbe, the victim, said two men wearing balaclavas entered her home on Saturday 2 July around 10:20.
She said her driver and domestic worker were locked up in her room during the attack.
The intruders demanded keys to the safe and she handed them over.
“The men knew exactly were all the safes were and even knew some of the safe combinations,” said Snibbe.
Snibbe said she, her brother and the domestic worker were the only people who knew the location of the hidden safes.
The men raided all safes and took a number of valuables, including Snibbe’s firearm.
Snibbe said the men told them to lie face down before they fled.
