Ga-Rankuwa funeral home owner shot dead

Police say the victim was a well known attorney and businessman in Ga-Rankuwa.

A funeral parlour owner was shot and killed in Ga-Rankuwa on Wednesday.

Police spokesperson Warrant Officer Mathews Nkoadi said three armed men entered a funeral home in Zone 4, Ga-Rankuwa, on Wednesday morning.

“They (robbers) found the receptionist, the owner and another employee. They apparently instructed the two employees to lie down and pushed the owner, a 74-year-old man, into his office at gunpoint,” said Nkoadi.

He said one of the suspects demanded the keys to the owner’s white Mercedes-Benz and his firearm.

“They then shot him twice in his upper body and he died on the scene,” said Nkoadi.

The suspects then got into the vehicle and fled.

The vehicle was recovered a few hours later, about 5km away.

“A case of murder and car hijacking is being investigated and no arrests have been made,” he said.

The victim, whose name cannot be revealed until his family has been informed, is a well known attorney and businessman in Ga-Rankuwa.

“We appeal to residents who might have seen the incident or who have knowledge of the culprits to bring any information that can lead to their arrest to the police by calling 08600 10111 or by SMSing the crime line number on 32211,” said Nkoadi.
