Human skeleton found in the east
Police are investigating an inquest after human remains were found near a railway line
Four little boys crossing a railway line from Phomolong informal settlement to Mamelodi East en route to Skierlik informal settlement made a gruesome discovery on Thursday afternoon.
They discovered a human skeleton next to the railway line running along Phomolong informal settlement.
According to Mamelodi East police spokesperson, Warrant Officer Michael Mbewe, the boys where crossing the railway line running along tall grass. They then noticed grass burnt in a circle that appeared suspicious to them and they went to investigate.
“Upon investigation, a few metres away from the burnt grass, one of the boys saw a human skeleton,” said Mbewe.
Mbewe further said Skierlik is a new informal settlement that falls under the Boshkop police precinct.
Police have asked residents who have reported missing people to come forward and help with the forensic tests.
He said the police are investigating an inquest case and could not confirm whether human remain belonged to an adult or a child.
