Caster wins heat to qualify for semis

Caster Semenya is one step closer to get her elusive Olympic gold medal.

Caster Semenya won the women’s 800m heat with ease on Wednesday afternoon booking her place in the semis.

The 25-year-old finished in a time of 1:59.04.

Before the race, the #Caster4Gold tag started trending on Twitter as encouragement for the middle distance runner.

Semenya is a favourite to win the women’s 800m finals that are set to take place on Saturday.

She earned silver in 2012 London Olympics women’s 800m race.
