Viljoen and Semenya hopefuls for gold
Sunette Viljoen and Caster Semenya will be in action on Friday looking to add to the medal tally.
Sunette Viljoen is set to compete in the women’s javelin final on Friday.
She and Caster Semenya are big favourites to add to South Africa’s only gold medal thus far in the 2016 Olympic Games in Rio.
It might be a double header but whoever is willing to be up at 02:00 will be in for a treat.
Viljoen qualified for the finals with ease after she bossed the heats with a 63m throw in her first attempt.
Viljoen’s personal best is 69.35m and if she can replicate that we may see another gold medal for South Africa.
In the 800m women’s semifinals, Caster Semenya is in action around 02:30 on Friday.
The 25-year-old won her heat in 1:59:04 on Wednesday afternoon to clinch a semifinal spot.
Hurdlers Antonio Alkana and LJ van Zyl, long jumper Lynique Prisloo and sprinter Anaso Jobodwana all failed to make it through to the semifinals in their respective categories.
Although hurdler Wenda Nel went through to the semis, she failed to make it through to the finals.
