NEWSFLASH: Parts of Centurion without power
The extent of the damage is still to be determined.
Centurion was left without power on Wednesday morning after a blast at a transformer in Valhalla, said resident Adelle Botes.
She said a burning loose cable set grass next to the transformer on fire.
Ina Strydom, councillor for ward 66, said the Tshwane electricity department investigated cable theft at the spot on the corner of Vinstra and Mayhew streets in the morning.
It was possible that a piece of cable left hanging by the thieves could have touched metal and caused a short circuit that led to the minor explosion, she said.
Strydom said the extent of the damage was still to be determined.
“There is no electricity in the area, but the technicians are currently working on fixing the problem.”
