A teenager was stabbed during an armed robbery in Centurion on Wednesday afternoon.
Police spokesperson Captain Dave Miller said two youths, aged 14 and 16, ambushed a 13-year-old boy who was crossing the footbridge on Botha Avenue at 13:45.
Miller said the victim was crossing the footbridge when the two robbers, one armed with a knife, demanded the victim’s belongings.
“They searched him [victim] and took his cellphone and then demanded to know what was in his backpack.”
Miller said the victim told the robbers only his wallet was in the backpack.
“The attackers then wanted to take the wallet, but the victim took out the cash from the wallet and gave it to them.”
Miller said the robbers wanted more than just the cash and a fight ensued.
During the scuffle the victim was stabbed in his arm.
Miller said the two attackers ran towards a shopping centre in Cantonments Road in Lyttelton.
“The victim gave chase and managed to alert a security officer and residents of the attack.”
The two robbers were apprehended in Cantonments Road and the stolen items were returned to the victim.
Miller said a docket of armed robbery was opened at Lyttelton police station and the two were set to appear in the Pretoria Magistrate’s Court on Friday.
“Police would like to thank all those who were involved in catching these two criminals. Only as a community working together we will we be able to conquer and defeat the criminal element in our area.”
