Stay safe this festive season
Crime often increases during the festive season. Here are a few tips to ensure you stay safe.
Criminal activities escalate during the festive season, warns Kilnerpark security.
“Kilnerpark security will be working day and night to protect residents of the Moot but also need their cooperation in this regard,” said spokesperson Ancelize van der Kooi.
“Do not become a victim of crime.”

She offered the following safety tips for residents:
“When you leave your house to do your Christmas shopping, make sure all your doors are locked and windows are closed and alarm activated.”
She said residents should get into the habit of locking their car doors before they started the engine.
“This will prevent criminals from opening the door when you are inside the vehicle. It can possibly prevent a hijacking.”
Van der Kooi said residents should always check their vehicles were locked before they entered the shopping centre.
“Car [signal] jamming is a reality and an easy way for criminals to get access to whatever you leave in your car.”

Van der Kooi said residents should pay for goods electronically rather than carrying around large amounts of cash.
“If it becomes necessary for you to withdraw money at an ATM, be aware of the people around you and their actions.”
“Should you feel unsafe rather leave and return later with a friend.”
Van der Kooi urged residents to be aware of the people around them in the shops.
“Many thieves steal directly from your handbag without you even noticing.”
“Keep your handbag close to you and closed at all times.”
Van der Kooi advised residents to always be patient on the roads.

“It might take a little longer to arrive at your destination but rather late than never.”
“We at Kilnerpark Security would like to urge all motorists never to drink and drive. Many people die on the roads because of driving under the influence or because they are hit by someone under the influence.”
Van der Kooi said criminal activity could be reported to Kilnerpark Security on 012-333-2031.
