Police hunt for mob killers
“Residents traced one robbery suspect and forced him to give up the names of his accomplices.”
Hercules police are searching for mob killers after a series of attacks broke out in Gomorrah on Tuesday.
Captain Bonginkosi Msimango said on Wednesday, the police were making progress.
“One suspect is currently called for questioning, if he’s connected to the mob justice, he’ll be arrested and charged for murder,” he said.
Msimango said the police were expecting to question more people over the next few days.
He said the violence started when men broke into a shop owned by a Somali man, tied him and his assistant up then set the shop alight.

Msimango said the owner burned to death while his friend was seriously injured but escaped death.
“It is alleged that neighbours saw the burning shop and rushed in to extinguish the fire and the survivor, also a Somali, told them the shopowner was still inside, trapped,” Msimango earlier said.
“The neighbours found the shopowner in a critical condition with his hands and feet tied up, and later died.”
He said the robbery had infuriated the residents who then marched to the Hercules police station demanding action be taken against those responsible for the arson and murder but later took the law into their own hands.

Msimango said the mob traced Thingane Ngwayi (28) a Zimbabwean interrogated him while stoning him until he gave up the name of his accomplice.
“He later died of his wounds in the Kalafong hospital.
The mob the set the home of the second suspect, Chris Musimeke, on fire.”
According to the police, Musimeke was still on the run.
Msimango condemned the attacks and called for calm.
