There will be zero tolerance for motorists driving under the influence of alcohol and wanted criminals this festive season, the police have pledged.
The Tshwane North cluster police in partnership with other state and provincial authorities said they had already intensified visibility in all major roads in the north of Pretoria.

Scores of people have already been arrested since the operation got off at the beginning of this month.
“We will show no mercy to offenders and criminals,” said police spokesperson Captain Mathews Nkoadi.
According to Nkoadi, there would be roadblocks in all major roads in the north such as Rachel De Beer, Mabopane Highway, Soutpan, R568, R101, N1, Molefe Makinta and the M44.
“This is a big operation. We are committed to reducing crime, particularly over festive period,” he said.
“We are not trying to stop people from having a good time – just [want them to] be responsible about doing it,” he said.
He appealed to those who would be drinking to respect their lives and those of other road users.
“Do not take chances – rather stay where you are until you have sobered up, or arrange for alternative transport home, and make such plans in advance to ensure that you are not left stranded”.
He also warned those driving above speed limit.
“If you are stopped at such a roadblock, and it is determined that you have consumed more than is permitted by law, you will be arrested and charged with driving under the influence of liquor.”
He said offenders would be held in custody until they were able to post bail, and in certain instances bail would be denied.

“Depending on prior convictions and the circumstances of your arrest, you face a minimum fine of R2 000 or a two-year prison sentence, or both. You may also lose your driver’s licence. And, of course, you will have a criminal record,” he said.
