When Neo Mofolo, a grade 12 learner at Crawford College Pretoria and member of the Judiciary, heard that he will be attending the State of the Nation Address in Cape Town on 9 February, he was thrilled.
“It is a dream come true,” says Mofolo, who is very passionate about history as a subject and has followed the opening of the parliament the last few years with great interest.
Mofolo and class mate Allison Wentzel, accompanied by history teacher Koula Voutsas, will be attending the opening on the invitation of the department of international relations.
Voutsas remarked: “I believe it is important to involve our learners in the workings of our democracy and expose them to a platform where they can witness one of the most liberal constitutions in action.”
This promises to be a highlight for these two learners and may even spark a political career.
