Miss Earth imparts pearls of wisdom

"Opportunities are out there - in abundance."

Miss Earth 2016 Nozipho Magagula has shared her thoughts on how young people can use opportunities presented to them to better their lives and those of other people.

The Centurion beauty told Rekord that South Africa was “alive with possibilities”.

“Opportunities are there in abundance and the youths have a better chance now than ever before to shape and change South Africa into the bright and greener tomorrow the future generations need.

“That will allow us to turn our dreams into reality if young people can start doing instead on dreaming.

She reckons the youth can achieve their dreams through hard work, networking with the right people, making smart decisions, prioritisation and making good investment decisions.

“The youth have many lessons to learn from our young democracy and available elders willing to share their history and struggles.”

Nozipho said the youth of 1976 left a mark.

“To commemorate these heroes and ‘sheroes’, the youth of today need to emulate, in a positive way, what their counterparts did in 1976.”

Nozipho urged government to improve the standard of education which has been heavily criticized in the past by NGOs such as Section27.

“We can still work towards providing quality education for every citizen and equal and fair opportunities for all,” she said.

“South Africans have come a long way but still have some way to go. The youth of our country are strong, vibrant and focused on tackling the difficult issues facing us. This is why I am optimistic that we are the generation that will continue to move South Africa in a good direction.”

Nozipho, who is passionate about giving to others, is studying for an MBChB degree at the University of Pretoria.

She lives with her parents in Centurion.
