Eersterust elders treated as kings and queens

"Mr Abraham said he was thankful for the kind gesture."

Reigning Mrs Tshwane-Pretoria Busi Roberts treated people of Lodewyk P Spies old age home to a lunch this week.

Roberts, who is also a philanthropist, said she chose Eersterust old age home as it was always in need of help.

“It is 70-percent funded by the department of social services and the rest is received from kind donors and sponsors,” said Roberts.

“The manager of the home Damons Abraham asked me to continue supporting the home in any way I can as they were always in need of help.”

The home has been caring for the elderly for more than 90 years.

“It was established in 1924, accommodating the elderly and frail over the age of 60 of all races,” said Roberts.

“Many of the elderly never get any visits from their families and this home has become their only family.”

With the help of his staff, Abraham takes care of 80 elderly people.

“Some of the staff members are registered nurses, assistants, cleaners and kitchen staff,” said Roberts.

She arrived with two friends, Phindile Mahlangu and Shavaugne Watson, and said the elderly people were happy to be treated like kings and queens.

“We wanted to show them that we appreciate them in our lives,” she said.

The three visitors were taken on a quick tour to see how the residents lived and what they needed.

“Abraham said he was thankful for the kind gesture,” said Roberts.

Multivitamin packs were given to the elderly people.

“This generous gift was sponsored by Clinigex Pharmaceutical company, in Irene,” said Roberts.

Mahlangu and Watson donated clothes they had collected from friends and relatives.

“Teddy Mwale of Excellere Catering company donated the food and we want to thank him and everyone for making this project a success. I also want to thank The Apple of His Eye for their contributions.”
