Winterveldt police had a prayer service at Dube police station on Tuesday to pray for strength in the fight against crime.
Police officers attended the service along with community members, CPF members, the ward 8 councillor as well as 11 pastors around Kromkuil, Mmakaunyane and Winterveldt.
“Dube police station has been grappling with spiraling crime,” said police spokesperson Sergeant Thembi Nowathe.

“All the stakeholders were concerned by the growing criminal activities and praying for guidance to bring down the crime rate.”
The prayer session focused on “combating crime and claiming the streets back from criminals”.
“Officers asked God to keep house robbers, burglars and thieves out of Winterveldt,” said Nowathe.
“Community members also prayed for the safety and protection of the police officers who are serving them. Our operations cannot on their own ensure safer communities, not without divine intervention.
“Police aim to have more such programmes in the future to focus on repairing injured human and spiritual values, spiritual crime prevention concepts and collaborations against drugs,” said Nowathe.
Community members were asked to also pray for police officers at the station as the Easter season was approaching.
The prayer started at 10:00 led by station commander Captain Portia Malatsi and the station’s new visible policing commander Sergeant Patrick Dihlake.
Chaplain Happy Mahloko encouraged members of the community and other pastors to partner with police officers in the fight against crime.
