Churches in the north of Pretoria are being targeted by thieves, Sinoville police said on Tuesday.
This after some break-ins had recently been reported at places of worship in the Sinoville and Montana areas.
“The criminals seem to be targeting churches for sound equipment and computers,” said police spokesperson Warrant Officer Johan van Dyk.
“We would like to urge management and staff to safely lock away all equipment.”

Van Dyk called upon community members to look out for suspicious persons near churches and businesses.
“Thieves are also still very active around schools and shopping centres.”
Van Dyk said theft of and from vehicles remained high in the area.
“People are most distracted at malls and schools,” he explained.
“Being in a rush – to get the kids to school or quickly going into a store – is no excuse for leaving your valuables on the seats or not checking that your doors are closed.”

Sinoville station commander Colonel Maria Roberts said the police’s primary concern remained community-safety.
“We ask for our community’s cooperation – to help us help our residents,” said Roberts.
“We have a suggestion box at the front of our client service centre, and call on our community to give their complaints, suggestions or compliments. It will be handled with confidentiality and feedback will be given to the complaints received.”
A red prayer box was also available at the station.
“Doxa Deo church donated the post-box to be used for prayer requests or any special messages,” said Roberts.
