UPDATE: ‘Bushiri protestor’ goes back to ‘daddy’
The three men were arrested after a series of protests outside Bushiri’s Enlightened Christian Gathering church where three women were trampled to death during a stampede when they ran for shelter as a thunderstorm started on 28 December 2018.
One of the men accused of apparently protesting against self-proclaimed prophet Shepherd Bushiri’s and his Enlightened Christian Gathering church has changed his tune and went back to his beloved “father”.
In the apparent turnaround detailed on the church’s online platform, a Lesotho national who initially told Rekord that his name was Prince Gcaba apologised for being part of the protest against the church and Bushiri.
“My name is Praise Ceba and I am originally from Lesotho. I have come forward to seek forgiveness for being part of the protesters who protested against Major 1.”
Gcaba apparently proceeded to explain he came back to the church as “nothing is working” and his life is a “mess” as he has wronged the “man of God”.
In the same post, it was claimed Gcaba was a homeless man who was coaxed into participating in the protests outside the church.

However, when Rekord attended Gcaba and his two co-accused’s bail hearing last month, their attorney Vincent Shela argued the trio’s home addresses were verified, they had jobs and families to return to.
When Rekord met Gcaba outside the Specialised Commercial Crimes Court after Bushiri and his wife were granted R100 000 bail each last week, he said he wanted to go back to the church as those close to him were no longer talking to him, along with his pregnant girlfriend.

In a WhatsApp conversation seen by Rekord, Gcaba “confessed” to one of his co-accused to using a fake name and phone number. He also told the co-accused to apologise to his “father” or “bad things” would happen to him.

Gcaba, Kennedy Nemoshongwa and Kabelo Tladinyane were arrested in the west of Pretoria on 6 January 2019 for alleged public violence and violating the road traffic act.
He [Gcaba] was shot in the face and another man was shot in the leg when police pounced on them “unprovoked”.
