The Pretoria West police have arrested another cable ‘thief’.
Police spokesperson Constable Sibongile Vuma said the arrest of a 29-year-old took place at the N4 highway near Lotus Gardens around 14:30 on Thursday.
“The man was caught with the cable in his possession,” Vuma told Rekord.
She said the value of the cable was around R500.

The man was also found with a spade hammer, commonly used to dig up the cables.
Vuma said the vispol commander applauded the police officers for their alertness and stop and searches made while patrolling.
He encouraged them to keep up the good work.
The man was detained at the Pretoria West police station and a case was opened.

On the same day in a separate incident, two men were also arrested for cable theft in the same area.
“Police acted swiftly after they received a complaint from a member of a community telephonically, about two suspects digging up cables in the rain,” she said.
Vuma said when the police questioned the suspects, one attempted to run away.
The police, however, managed to chase and apprehend him.

She said the two men, aged 19 and 20, were arrested for attempted cable theft and were being detained at Pretoria West police station.
All three men would appear in the Pretoria Magistrate’s Court soon.
