Two arrested for possession of illegal firearm, stolen vehicle
The two men got out of the vehicle and started running away when they saw the police.
Mamelodi East police arrested two men for unlawful possession of a firearm and ammunition as well as theft of motor vehicle over the weekend.
The two, aged 26 and 27, were spotted driving along Solomon Mahlangu Drive on Saturday morning, said Welbekend police spokesperson Sergeant Tsietsi Lamola.
“It is alleged that police spotted a suspicious vehicle driving along Solomon Mahlangu Drive in Mamelodi East around 10:00 and pulled it over,” he said.

“The two men got out of the vehicle and started running, but the police managed to apprehend the two.
“The suspects were found in possession of an unlicensed firearm and ammunition.”
“A preliminary investigation found that the car had been reported stolen earlier in the morning.”
Another 35 people were arrested for various crimes including assault, theft, rape, shoplifting, drunken driving, public drinking, driving without a valid driver licence, possession of drugs, selling liquor without permit and being in the country illegally, Lamola added.
