Police have once again urged pedestrians in the Centurion CBD area to be vigilant.
This after Lyttelton police arrested a man for possession of an unlicensed firearm.
The man was arrested on Tuesday evening.
He was arrested in the vicinity of the SuperSport Park stadium.

He was found in possession of a .22 calibre pistol with a filed-off serial number, said police spokesperson Captain Dave Miller.
“Our crime prevention and tracing members arrested the man in one of the crime hotspots in the area,” said Miller.
“We are currently investigating the possibility of linking him to other crimes in the area, including house break-ins and armed robberies. We are also investigating the origin of the firearm.”
Members of the team who secured the arrest were congratulated and thanked “for going above and beyond the call of duty”.
“There are so many stories of attacks on police officers,” said Miller.

“We therefore commend the officers for taking on an armed suspect and putting their own safety at risk.”
Miller called on pedestrians in the Centurion CBD area to be vigilant, especially when walking alone and at night.
“Try not to walk alone – and avoid poorly lit areas where criminals might be lurking,” he said.
“If you believe someone is following you, cross over to the other side of the street. Do the same if you see a group of suspicious people in the road in front of you.”
“If they also cross the street, then rather turn around and head to a safe place.”
