Swift response by the police led to two suspected hijackers being nabbed in Soshanguve recently.
The arrest on Tuesday was made by the Tshwane north cluster task team after a call was received from the community about a hijacking in zone 2, Ga-Rankuwa, said police spokesperson Captain Matthews Nkoadi.
“Two employees of British Tobacco were at a spaza shop in the area when they were approached by two men armed with a firearm. The armed men then pointed the firearm at the employees and ordered them to lie down on the back seat of their vehicle, a white VW Polo,” he said.

The suspects apparently drove with the employees before dropping them somewhere in Soshanguve.
Nkoadi said the two suspects were later joined by four other men driving in a grey VW Polo.
“Our task team members, through a tip-off, managed to trace the suspects.”
He said two were arrested while four managed to escape.
The vehicle (white VW Polo) was also recovered.
“The manhunt for the remaining suspects is on and the police are appealing to members of the community who might notice the suspects to come up with information that might lead to their arrest.”
The two suspects would soon appear in the Soshanguve Magistrate’s Court on charges of car hijacking, Nkoadi said.
