Gauteng MEC for roads and transport Ismail Vadi recently visited Eersterust to discuss the long-awaited Moloto Road link project.
The Eersterust action organisation said a promise has been made over the years for a connecting road that would link Eersterust with Moloto Road.
The organisation’s chairman Ricardo Terry said the “long-standing promise” by the department had yet to materialise.

“With regard to the long-standing road linking Eersterust to the Moloto Road, the MEC has made a promise to engage with all relevant community leaders,” he said.
Terry said there were also other decisions made during the visit.
“We also brought the ‘Tuk-Tuk’ operations in our area to the attention of the MEC,” he said.
He said Vadi said to regulate this mode of transport, he would work with the local metro authorities.
“He will do this by sending a delegation from his office to get involved with our association and various stakeholders to ensure the initiation of the process,” he said.
Terry said during the visit, it was also established that the Tshepo 1 million youth skills empowerment initiative would help community members during the voting process.

“Tshepo 1 million is an initiative by the Gauteng provincial government designed to break down the barriers encountered by young people when looking for jobs,” he said.
Elmarie Linde of the metro’s department of roads and transport said it was pleasing that the MEC of roads and transport had visited Eersterust.
Linde said one of the major problems encountered with roads was over contracts.
“Tenders are advertised by the province and successful applications are decided by the tender committee, but there are always problems with the contracts.”
Linde said these problems were usually only noticed much later in the process.
“We really hope that when the Eersterust-Moloto Road link is established, the correct contractors will be appointed and they will be able to build the road without any disruption for motorists,” she said.
