A 38-year-old man was apprehended on Wednesday after a failed attempt to defraud a well-known clothing shop at the Mamelodi east shopping mall.
Police spokesperson Captain Micheal Mbewe said the man allegedly asked staff for assistance with clothing credit application.
“The application was then done”, Mbewe said
“[The] suspect was oozing confidence when the processing began with news that he was standing a chance for a clothing credit not less than a thousand five hundred rand.”
Mbewe said it was soon revealed that the ID the man had used belonged to someone else.
When questioned about it, the man tried to run away, “but security was swiftly activated and they were able to apprehend him”.
The man was taken to the Mamelodi East police station.
