The police officer accused of shooting and wounding a Pretoria North teenager was granted bail on Wednesday.
Constable Peter Makota’s bail was set at R2 000 in the Pretoria North Magistrate’s Court after a verdict on his hearing was rolled over on Tuesday.
He was charged with attempted murder after allegedly shooting a 17-year-old boy in an argument over why a group of boys was sitting across the road from where he lives last week Friday.
“The argument was over why they were sitting there,” said Independent Police Investigative Directorate (Ipid) spokesperson Moses Dlamini.
A shouting match between him and the group of boys reportedly ensued.
Makota allegedly shot the boy in the shoulder as he tried to walk away, said the teen’s mother, Lorraine Botha.
Botha told Rekord her son was recovering well after undergoing surgery on Sunday.
“He was discharged on Sunday,” she said.
