The Olievenhoutbosch police have noticed an spike in business and residential related crimes in precinct in the past few weeks.
Spokesperson Constable Ulrika Liebenberg asked the residents of Mnandi Vally, Louwlardia, Samrand and Monavoni to be vigilant and make their homes more secure.
“Always let someone know where you are going and how long you will be,” said Liebenberg.
“Know your police and emergency [contact] numbers. Have them displayed in an accessible area. Know your neighbours and do not allow unidentified people into your yard.”
Liebenberg called on residents to double check their locks and to secure all doors before leaving home or going to bed.
“Get to know more about your domestic workers before you employ them,” she said.
“If you employ them make sure you keep their ID copy with you. Do not leave gardening tools in your yard. But most importantly report suspicious behaviour immediately to the police.”
