UPDATE: Sunnyside police hunt AWOL seventh-floor murder suspect

LISTEN: “The Sunnyside police will leave no stone unturned in their quest to ensure that Ofdegbuliwe is recaptured.”

Sunnyside police have launched a manhunt for a man wanted in connection with a murder who skipped bail.

Obienna Greg Ofdegbuliwe (37) failed to show up for his hearing at the Pretoria Magistrate’s Court for his alleged role in the murder of Shaun Douglas Chabalala (23).

Ofdegbuliwe had been out on R3 000 bail, according to police spokesperson Captain Daniel Mavimbela.

Mavimbela said Chabalala and a friend had gone to a flat in Sunnyside in May 2018, responding to an online advert for a luxury camera on sale.

“Chabalala died after he was allegedly pushed through a window from inside a unit on the seventh floor,” said Mavimbela adding that the friend had escaped.

Apparently the “sellers” had used the advert to lure them into a robbery trap.

Ofdegbuliwe was arrested in Sunnyside after five months on the run, following a tip-off by a member of the public.

“We will leave no stone unturned in making sure Ofdegbuliwe is recaptured,” said Mavimbela.

He urged anyone with information to call Crime Stop anonymously on 08600-1011 or SMS Crime Line on 32211.
