Olievenhoutbosch residents have been urged to be more vigilant in their homes following an increase in burglaries and house robberies.
Olievenhoutbosch police spokesperson Constable Ulrike Liebenberg advised the community to look out for each other and work together.
“We’ve noticed that burglary cases, especial in business premises, have increased,” she said.
“Robberies with a firearm have become common recently.”
Police advised people staying in or near Olievenhoutbosch extensions 13, 36, 37, Mnandi Vally, Louwlardia, Samrand and Monavoni to consider the following safety tips:
– Make sure that your home is secure.
– Know your sector and emergency numbers and have them displayed in an accessible place.
– Always let someone know where you are going and how long you will be gone.
– Avoid displaying valuables where criminals can see them.
– Know your neighbours.
– Know more about your domestic workers before you employ them and if you employ them make sure you keep their ID copy with you.
– Double-check that you have locked and secured all windows and doors before leaving home and when going to sleep.
– Do not leave gardening tools outside in your yard.
– Do not allow unidentified people into your yard.
– Ask your neighbours to switch on and off your lights when you are away.
– Report suspicious behaviour to the police.
