Two women from the west of Pretoria were “doing well” after they were brutally attacked about a month ago.
Isabel Beukes of Danville was attacked on 1 April when she became stranded after “the bus did not show up” and had to walk to another stop.
Beukes told Rekord this week that she was recovering well from the attack.
“Emotionally, I am doing really well and my wounds also healed completely,” she said.
“Luckily, I am a very strong woman overall. I only just get a little afraid when it gets dark outside.”
Beukes’ boss and executive director of Volkshulp 2000, Corrie du Plessis had previously told Rekord that Beukes had to walk across a veld between Dan Street and the Magalies Freeway to the bus stop.
“While walking across, a man was walking towards her,” she said.

“She then saw someone running towards her, but it was already too late [to escape].”
Du Plessis said Beukes was knocked to the ground.
“She fought not to let go of her handbag but the criminal dragged her around, kicking her in the face,” she said, adding he had pulled out a clump of her hair.
Du Plessis said Beukes’ ribs were hurt and she had cuts on her arm.
In a second incident, Belinda Botha of Proclamation Hill was attacked a week before in the same veld.
Botha said this week that she was “doing well”.
“Emotionally, I think I am stable and doing well,” she said.
“Of course, I now completely avoid the area. I am definitely well on my way to recovery.”
She said her attacker had dragged her into the veld when she would not let go of her handbag.
“I fought for my life.”
She said in the veld, her attacker tried to remove her and fearing she was about to be raped, let go of her bag and the criminal fled.

“I remember crawling out of the long grass towards the highway because I simply could not walk,” she said.
Luckily, a Good Samaritan spotted her and offered help.
Both women were employees of Volkshulp 2000 in Queenswood.
Botha said she suspected it was the same criminal who attacked them.
