The Brooklyn police have once again warned the community to beware con men.
This after a man who believed that he was helping a member of the community had his laptop stolen under false pretences in Hatfield on Monday.
A police spokesperson said the 30-year-old man was approached by a stranger on the corner of Jan Shoba and Prospect streets in Hatfield to ask him to help him collect a debt.

“The man said a woman owed him money but he did not want to face her [himself],” said the spokesperson, adding that the stranger had pretended to phone the woman to inform her that he is sending somebody to fetch the money.
“He kept the man’s laptop, bag and [other] personal belongings as guarantee that he will return with the money.”
“The woman never turned up with the money and at one stage the man looked back and saw the con man getting into a Jeep and drive off with his belongings.”
In the past, similar cases were reported at the Brooklyn police.
The spokesperson said the community are advised not to trust strangers.
“It is also not advisable to trust strangers to look after your belongings, the chances are good that they will disappear with it.
No arrest has yet been made and any information that can assist the investigation can be given to the police anonymously on 08600 10111 or by SMS to 32211 or the Brooklyn police on 012-366-1735/6.
